Frank Teacher Awarded $500 Through CBS 5 Pay It Forward Team
Blanchard was awarded $500 on behalf of CBS 5 Pay It Forward thanks to her dedication to inspire her students to read and do their best each and every day. Blanchard was nominated by her friend and colleague Stacy Goebel, project manager for the Read To The Final Four competition created by myON, a literacy company that provides digital reading content for students.
“Alexandra is so deserving of this award because she truly goes out of her way to give her students the best educational opportunities,” said Goebel. “She has been this way all the years that I have known her!”
Goebel helped Blanchard’s class get signed up for Read To The Final Four, a statewide literacy competition open to all third-grade students. The competition was based on average time spent reading among third-grade students. This three-month competition, which mimicked the March Madness® bracket, allowed schools to advance in the competition by number of minutes read through myON software.
Blanchard is deserving of the CBS 5 Pay It Forward award because of her dedication to inspire her students to read, especially during the myON and NCAA March Madness Read To The Final Four competition. Out of 400 third-grade classrooms that competed, Blanchard's class made it to the final 16!
Blanchard was responsible for getting her students far in the competition by instilling a love and desire to read in her classroom activities as well as after school in the library. This is a celebratory moment especially because many of the Frank Elementary students do not have access to a home computer and did most of their online reading for the competition at school.
Even though the competition may be over, online reading has not stopped for Frank third-graders! They will continue to have unlimited, multi-user access to the myON personalized literacy environment containing over 5,500 digital books and literacy tools through August 31, 2017.
Congratulations Alexandra on your recognition by CBS 5 Pay It Forward team and for being a great example of excellence within TD3! Watch Alexandra’s surprise interview below.
