Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) are used to improve academic and behavioral outcomes, ensuring that all students have access to the most effective behavioral practices and interventions possible. PBIS provides a school wide framework for achieving these outcomes. PBIS is a decision making framework that guides selection, integration and implementation of the best evidence based behavioral practices and interventions for improving behavioral outcomes to ensure academic success in all students.
Students demonstrating PBIS behavior are recognized and celebrated throughout the year.
During the spring of 2016, Aguilar achieved the Arizona PBIS Merit Award for PBIS implementation. As of April 10, 2017, we demonstrated advancement by earning the AZ Bronze PBIS Achievement Award, for demonstrating even higher fidelity of PBIS implementation and student outcomes.
PBIS at Aguilar continues to bring strong school-wide improvements in student behavior and a positive learning environment. The new implementation of the Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum this year has led to closer bonds between teachers and students, and it has prompted students to utilize more tools and coping strategies when faced with a variety of conflicts and struggles at school. We use Positive PAWS and specific praise to reinforce students for the following the Aguilar Expectations. With pride and appreciation, we know that our staff's effective implementation of PBIS values, procedures, and systems are making our school a positive environment full of happy, life-long learners.
