Meyer Montessori is part of Tempe Elementary School District and offers a free public Montessori education. Tempe Elementary School District offers open enrollment, meaning that individuals can live outside of the school district boundary and still attend Meyer Montessori. The campus is located at 2615 South Dorsey Lane with primary classrooms (for children ages three, four, and five) and lower elementary classrooms (for children ages six, seven, and eight) at this time.

Age Requirements:

Preschool age children (3- and 4-year-olds): Children must be 3 or 4 years old when the program begins each year. They must also be toilet trained and have proficient motor skills for self and classroom safety.

Kindergarten: Child must be 5 years old on or before August 31.

Students must also be toilet trained and have proficient motor skills for self and classroom safety.

Lower Elementary: Child must be 6, 7, or 8 years old when the program begins each year.

Application Process:

  1. Complete the registration packet (download below or pick up at District Office or Meyer Montessori) and turn in to the Meyer Montessori Office: 2615 S. Dorsey Ln., to be time and date stamped. If downloading packet online, please do not print back to back.

  2. Eligible students will follow the placement priority for the 2018-2019 school year. After a complete registration packet has received a time/date stamp, priorities will be given in the following order:

    1. Children in the Meyer Neighborhood (the neighborhood located between Broadway Rd. and Southern Ave. and between Rural Rd. and McClintock Dr.)

    2. Children of District employees or children under the care of a legal guardian who is a District employee, with primary preference given to employees of Meyer Montessori.

    3. Children with prior Montessori experience (consideration for Early Elementary)

    4. Siblings of students currently enrolled at Meyer Montessori

    5. All other children based on availability within specific age levels and gender balance of the age levels.

  3. Families will be notified of placement in Meyer Montessori.

    1. If an opening is not immediately available, there will be an option to be placed on the waiting list.

    2. Children on the waiting list for the current year will need to reapply for acceptance the following year.

Placement Decisions:

The optimal dynamic in a Montessori class calls for a careful balance of age, gender and the diverse needs and contributions of the children. Guides are actively involved in placement decisions because they have intimate knowledge of their own classroom communities.

Waiting List:

Because there is some attrition between enrollment time and the start of school, a certain number of vacancies are anticipated. Students are prioritized on the list according to date of application and District priority, within their specific age level and gender balance for the age level.

Documentation required for registration is as follows:

Completed Enrollment Packet including:

• Certified Birth Certificate

• Immunization Records

• Proof of Current Address

• Legal documents as needed, i.e., custody/court/guardianship
